WHY SHOULD I HAVE A TRAINED DOG?

    Understanding your dog and knowing how to control him, develop his potentials both mentally and physically are essential.  Learning to resolve behavior problems, emotional conflicts, and frustrations are no less important than love and respect.  This is the foundation philosophy, our program is based upon.

   
    Devin is a natural as a bird dog professional.  He grew up and still lives in the small, rural town of Monett, Missouri, where, as a boy, he and his grandfather farmed and pursued what was to become for Devin a life-long passion--top-quality bird dogs.  For many years Devin and his grandfather owned and trained a large string of Pointers out of Gunsmoke Kennels.  After his grandfather's retirement, Devin continued to own and train various breeds and strains of field trial and hunting dogs.

    Bird dogs are a conduit to great friendships, and one developed between Devin and Ronnie Smith in the early 1990's.  This friendship let to an introduction to Rick Smith.  With Ronnie's recommendation, Rick hired Devin as gun dog trainer and guide on the 45,000 acre Mariposa Ranch in South Texas, where Rick provides a bird dog training and guiding service that develops and uses nearly 100 bird dogs every hunting season.

    In the off-season, Devin and his wife Lajuan own and operate Center Creek Kennels, a full service business providing training for pointing dogs, retrievers and flushing dogs, both upland and waterfowl.  His service, sanitation and health program is second to none, and his kennel grounds are manicured for pointing dog and retriever training.

    Having trained over 400 dogs, including a National Champion, RU National Champion and National Amateur Champion, Devin is also considered a top-notch specialist in the trained retrieve for both Pointers and Retrievers.  But, he readily admits his passion is Labs, and he breeds and trains Labs for upland game, waterfowl and competition.

    Devin has trained dogs for the public since 1990, and professionally since 1983.  Some of the largest ranch owners in Texas seek out Devin for their dog training, like Dan Sullivan V of the Mariposa Ranch and members of the King Ranch family, and the 6666 Ranch in Guthrie, TX.

    Rick says of Devin, "He's the best I've seen at the trained retrieve," Devin also proven to be an excellent seminar presenter.  His teaching skills match his training skills.  Rick Smith receives constant praise for Devin and both trainer, guide and teacher, and looks forward to a long friendship and business partnership.
